A difficult core biopsy

55 year old woman - Neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer - post chemo lymph node

The biopsy shows a large scar marking the site of a previous metastasis. Mouse-over shows further detail - there is no residual carcinoma - a complete nodal response to chemotherapy.

a complete nodal response to chemotherapy

The presence of metastatic nodal disease before chemotherapy was confirmed by core biopsy.

This is about as good as it gets as an example of nodal scarring after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

It is often seen in association with a pathological complete response in the breast but may occur in isolation. A partial response may also be seen - see also Image of the Quarter 2015/4.
